Fashion is the second largest polluter on the planet, second only to the oil industry. This must change. As humans, we have a moral obligation to protect the environment from pollution and any activity that leads to environmental degradation.

As consumers, we have a moral obligation to make sustainable and informed choices. As a fashion brand, we have an opportunity to ensure all our interactions with the environment use the resources that nature provides, but in a sustainable manner. It is our hope that one day, all fashion brands will conform to this. Protecting the environment protects humanity and the world we leave for our children.

At Eli & Amalia, we are committed to using recycled and GRS certified fabrics and components wherever possible. Whereby we cannot use recycled materials, everything else we use is sustainable and GOTS certified. All our packaging is recycled, recyclable and GRS certified.

Our collections are produced in Italy in small family run factories with a fully monitored production line and an optimum wage – work life balance. We are a family business; we don’t intend on becoming a big corporation. Our orders are therefore limited, thus leading to very little waste. In the event we have unsold products, we donate these to charity.

Our bomber jackets are made from recycled nylon, lined with recycled cotton along with recycled cashmere wadding.

Our recycled cashmere is made from
*82% is recycled cashmere (Recashmere) and 18% is PLA Ingeo™ (PLA)

Here are some interesting facts:

Our Recycled Cashmere scraps come from post-consumer sweaters.

This is a process whereby cashmere sweaters that would otherwise go to the landfill, are shredded back into fibre form and spun into renewed yarn in a family-owned mill in Italy.

*PLA Ingeo ™ fibre is 100% natural and biodegradable.
It comes from a renewable and a revolutionary source of energy: The sugar source from Corn!

All GRS Certified and ICEA Certified.

Our outerwear ribs and cuffs are all GOTS certified.

Our labels are made from 100% recycled polyester threads and are GRS certified.

Our leather jackets aren’t crafted from just any material; they wear the pride of award-winning Desserto leather. Going beyond the usual confines of vegan leather, our jackets find their essence in the rugged terrains of Mexico, where cacti—nature’s resilient wonders—flourish. This cactus leather, sourced from organic plantations, bears the stamp of sustainability, ensuring you wear not just a garment but a philosophy.

This cactus leather is a powerhouse of qualities:

  • Cruelty-free: No animals are harmed in the making, ensuring your fashion choices are compassionate.
  • Sustainable: A biodegradable leather alternative crafted from nature’s resilient plant, eliminating the guilt of environmental degradation.
  • Non-toxic: Absent of harmful chemicals, phthalates, and PVC, safeguarding your health and the environment’s vitality.
  • Award-winning: This isn’t just leather; it’s a laurel-bearing innovation with accolades like the Green Product Award to its name. Plus, it’s GRS certified, guaranteeing the highest standards of sustainability.

Our gabardines, poplins, most of our dresses, shirts and bottoms shell fabrics are derived from Italian mills. All are GRS certified.

We use Econyl for the tulle in some of our dresses and skirts. Econyl is regenerated nylon; taken from waste which would be otherwise polluting the Earth, such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic all over the world. The waste is sorted and cleaned to recover as much of the nylon as possible. There follows a regeneration and purification process to recycle the waste nylon back to its original purity. It is then processed into yarns and polymers. It is identical to brand new nylon and it is infinitely recyclable without compromising on quality. It provides a solution to waste and reduces the global warming impact of nylon.

We use yarn from Italy for our knitwear which is a special eco friendly GRS certified cashmere mix,

comprised of 30% wool, 5% cashmere, 30% CLY Tencel and 35% Polyamide.

Tencel fibres are even more eco friendly than recycled viscose. The fibres are produced by environmentally responsible processes from a sustainably sourced natural raw material – wood.

Wood pulp is transformed into cellulosic fibres with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact. Tencel fibres are biodegradable and have unique physical properties giving great strength, long lasting softness, efficient moisture absorption, excellent colour retention and

are gentle to skin.
